How is this done?
With one session per week, over 12 weeks, participants cover a range of topics through roundtable discussions. The first four weeks focus on ‘myself’, The next four weeks cover ‘my team’ and The last four weeks focus on ‘my organisation’. This timeline allows for the following:
- Time to reflect, digest and internalise each section.
- Fosters an environment where participants get more and more comfortable around one another because of the in-depth conversations along with the routine of seeing each other once a week for an hour.
- Spreading out sessions gives space for those participants who might need A little bit more time/momentum to open up.
The end of each session has an assignment/application for the week ahead. This space between sessions during the week also allows participants to try and put into action what they have previously learned.
Speak up! sessions may strictly remain as a 12-week training, But in our case team members request that it continue throughout the year and even include friends of the organisation. We are happy to see the sessions grow into different team members voting topics of discussion, volunteering to facilitate each week, as well as external facilitators volunteering to contribute to this capacity building.
